» » Divine Affair of Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu



Reverie of spiritual testimonies where man finds the meaning of his/her existence
or rather say pinch the thirst in order to get the core of salvation is something very spontaneous and apprehensive.

So to illustrate the sequence and potency of divine hegemony we have the Temple of Pashupatinath which is located at an estuary of an ever holy Baghmati river. Dedicated solely to commemorate the omnipresence of Lord Shiva who is believed to be an authoritarian of this Universe is the principle orgy of this temple.


An effigy here is considered to be the national deity and owing to its importance the site has been remarked under the list of World Heritage Site of UNESCO. The site of temple is guided by the holy abode of Lord Shiva which is believed to be one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams.

History 

As per the believe the temple was constructed in the 17th century which was substituted and supported by many ongoing incident which asked the human civilisation to understand the supernatural power of Lord Shiva.

It was King Bhupatindra Malla who commissioned the site to construct the shrine of Lord Shiva and within the site of it you would witness numerous temples that compliment the grandeur of it and to name them the first we have 14th century Vaishnav temple and the ram temple beside that Guyeshwari temple of the 11thcentury depicts the manuscript of the chronology.

The priest here who performs the holy rituals are known as Bhat Brahmins and they dates their origin from the shore of South India and leading the course of Bhat Brahmins they have chief priest who is only answerable to the kings regarding the maintenance of the temple.

Origin and Beliefs

To support the course of the temple there are several legends and story associated with the valley of Kathmandu where the course of Pashupatinath temple found its way.


It is believed that Once Shiva and Parvati was walking around the forest adjacent to bagmati river and they were so pleased with the beauty of it that they decided to take a form of Deer to enjoy the course. Shiva was so lost in his inception that he refused to return back to Kailash and after several approaches by his sub-ordinates he finally decided to make his way and while going back he decided to call himself as lord of animals which in common refers to Pashupatinth.

Another tale is associated with the boon which was given to Lord Buddha by Mata Parvati after she was impressed by the core of meditation that he performed.

Legends

When it comes to comprehend the contribution of legendary walks then the incident of cow refers special mention. It was during the time when Shiva was in the form antelope and was roaming around the site of Bagmati River. People here understood the divine act of Lord Shiva and forced him to take his original form while grabbing him at his horn. The force that led to broke the horn from the head was worshiped as linga for several years and was later discovered lost.

One day the milkman discovered that his cow is sprinkling milk and the curious mind of forced him to see what’s under the land and while digging the earth he found Linga of Pashupatinath.

Tourism importance

Being a most devotional centre not only of Kathmandu but of the world the people here comes mainly with the purpose of paying homage to the shrine of Lord Shiva which is defined by his Linga. Pilgrimage purpose can be considered as the sole reason of followers beside that the site is revered by the non-Hindu people who after understanding an importance of its existence comes in a huge numbers and witnesses the benevolence and humble devotion of the people who follows the course of Hinduism. From many other corners Pashupatinath Temple has played an important role in the tourism growth in Nepal, but the sanctity of the temple remains the same even after its existence of more than 100’s of years.
