» » Deer Park, A Wonderful Place to Visit in Sikkim

that attracts people from all walks of life through its scenic beauty, diverse culture, rich heritage, orchids, beautiful monasteries and other architectural wonders.

Deer Park also known as Rustamji Park, situated adjacent to the new secretariat building, is named after Rustamji, who was one among the ‘Dewans’ of the ‘Chogyal’ of Sikkim, who is also claimed to be the
author of the most cherished book ‘Enchanted Frontiers’. It serves as an important landmark in Gangtok, and is gaining popularity amongst the tourist attractions. It also serves as a vintage point because from here, one can see the mesmerizing views of the adjoining hilly areas. Established in the late 1950’s, it is famous for being the home to several species of deer. 
 The numerous species of deer found in this park are brought from several parts of Sikkim as well as the adjoining regions. The park has an open enclosure where you will mostly see deer all around, but it also embraces few cages for animals like Red Panda, Himalayan Bear and some others. 

The interesting part of this park is its sprawling garden, the serenity of the place and a nice pavement to walk around and one can take the pleasure of what nature has to offer here. It is one of the decent places in Sikkim to stroll and spend quality time too. Mostly for the kids it’s an excellent place to hang around as they can stroll around without fear and easily spot the deer and long horned antelopes.



 Besides being a cool, calm and serene place the thing that grabs people attraction towards itself is also the erect statue of Lord Buddha, preaching the noble truths to his followers. It is said to be a resemblance of the first sermon of Lord Buddha, which is located at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh. This park has also been known to be built to honor the rebirth of Lord Buddha as a Musk Deer. In the forefront of this statue you will also get to see a Butter Lamp, which is surrounded by the range of beautiful flowers and the lamp you witness here glows continuously.

While you are at this park you can also pay a visit to the nearby attractions which is also other great natural phenomenon such as White Hall, Himalayan Zoological Park, Orchid Sanctuary, Ganesh Tuk, and many more. Morning time would be the best time to visit the park as there is more chances to spot the deer easily who has come out for their early meals.
