» » Rajnandgaon, a Home to Few Renowned Temples in Chhattisgarh

Rajnandgaon is a district located in the central part of Chhattisgarh. It was carved out of Durg district on January 26th, 1973.
The region is also known as Shanskardhani referring to the peace and harmony with which the people of different religions live at this place. 
The place was previously known as Nandgram and was ruled under various dynasties in the primeval times. Rajnandgaon district is abounded by Durg in the east and Bastar in the south. Located at a distance of about 73 km from Raipur, the capital city of the state, Rajnandgaon is popular for its temples along with small scale industries and trades.

Attractions

Dongargarh- It is the prime pilgrimage centre of the district, which lies at a distance of about 40 km from the main city. The temple of this place is dedicated to Mata Bambleshwari, who is also referred as Badi Bambleshwari. Placed at a height of about 1600 ft, this temple is located on the summit of a hill. The temple is mostly visited during the Navaratri of Kavar and Chaitra. A day and night fair is organized during this time at this temple.

Bambleshwari Temple and Choti Bambleshwari Temple- Bambleshwari temple is located in Dongargarh, which is located at a distance of about 100 m from Bhilai. The temple is situated on a hilltop close to which, is another temple called Choti Bambleshwari Temple, at a distance of about 1.2 km. 

Both the temples are visited mostly during the festive period of Navaratris, during which the place organizes a daily fair.  Various displays are made by different companies and organizations during this fair. Another special feature about this place is a ropeway, which is the only passenger ropeway of Chhattisgarh. 


Mata Sheetala Devi Shakti Peetha- It is another important religious centre of Rajnandgaon district, which dates back to around 2,200 years. The Shakti Peetha or temple is located at a distance of about 1.5 km from the Rajnandgaon railway station and is dedicated to Goddesses like Mahalaxmi, Mahasaraswati, Mahakali and Mahasingvahini.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the place is during the winter season, which falls during the months of October to February.

The place has a considerable number of hotels and lodges that range from budget to mid budget class. These hotels and lodges are equipped with all the basic amenities and they offer standard services for the accommodation to their guests.

How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport to this place is Raipur airport, located at a distance of about 80 km. The airport is connected with various different parts in the country like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc. Taxi services are available from the airport to get to the place.

By Train: Rajnandgaon has its own railway station, which is well connected with places like Mumbai, Delhi, Nagpur, Puri, Trivandrum, Ahmadabad, Mumbai and Howrah.


By Road: Rajnandgaon is easily accessible through road from the capital city, Raipur, which is located at a distance of about 73 km. The place receives regular bus and taxi services from Raipur. Rajnandgaon is also connected by road with nearby cities and villages.
