Sochi Olympics, Russia, 2014

After winning the bids against Austria, South Korea and Salzburg the Russia was selected to host the winter Olympics of 2014
and it was for the first time that Russian Federation was hosting such Olympics after the summer Olympics which was held in 1980.

The 2014 Winter Olympics is also officially known as the XII Olympic Winter Games and was scheduled to start from 7^th of February till 23^rdof February, 2014.

Infrastructure

After being elected as a hosting nation the very first thing that Russian Federation looked to initialise was its infrastructure facility and the task was efficiently done after investing mammoth amount of money which in turn made the Sochi Olympics the most expensive Olympics the world had ever seen.

Financing

When it comes to financial measures then one must understand that the estimated amount which was charted US$51 billion included the cost of infrastructure, management, development prospects and many more. It was one of the most expensive Olympics in history as it surpassed the estimated cost of $44 billion of the 2008 Summer Olympics of Beijing.

Venues

Since the entire ambience of Russia receives the coldest calamity so after understanding the fact and atmosphere required for Olympic Games Sochi was announced as the centre piece to hold the winter perks of Olympics. Apart from some of the old venues, few new venues were included and they are Fisht Olympic Stadium, Bolshy Ice Dome, Shayba Arena, Adler Arena Skating Centre, Ice Berg Skating Palace, Ice Cube Curling Center, Main Olympic Village and International Boradcasting Centre. 

Opening Ceremony

It was February 7^thwhen Sochi Olympics banged the roof with a huge performances which included the perks of Ballet, dance, acrobatic and circus performances spreading the message of humanity and encouraging the spirit of the games.

Sports

When it comes to the games which were to played during the course of the Sochi Olympics were Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey,  luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, speed boarding and speed skating.

Participating Nation

There were altogether 88 countries made their way to winter Olympics of Sochi and when it comes to top the list than host nation itself bagged the series of gold medals making it one of the most successful participator of the Olympics games.

Torch Relay

It is very official to start the games of Olympics with torch and relay and this time the relay covered the distance of 64,000 kilometres lifting the torch and trailing in to the Europe’s highest peak, Lake Baikal, space orbit and many more.

Logo, Mascots and Slogan

The logo of the Sochi Olympics considered the mass influence of Khokhloma and the slogan of the Olympics was Hot, Cool and yours which reflected the basic infrastructure of the Olympics of the game.

Mascots- the official mascots of the Sochi Olympics which was unveiled in 26 February 2011 revealed the postures of snow leopard, polar bear and snow hare.

Stamps and Coins

In order to welcome the sole of the game the government and postal department of the Russian federation released the sequence of the postage stamps reflecting the perks of Athletes, venues and the mascots of the games. Beside that central bank of Russia or the Bank of Russia issued exclusive coins and 100 rubble notes for the games.

Russian top the chart with 13 gold medals which was flowed by Norway with 11 gold medals, Canada with 10 gold medals, United States of America with 9, Netherlands and Germany shared their runs with 8 gold medals, Switzerland with 6, Belarus with five and last but not the least Austria and France with 4 gold medals each.
