» » Mysore, A Must Visit Destination in Karnataka



Mysore is a major tourist destination in the southern state of Karnataka,
in India. The city is known with various names, like the ‘Sandalwood city of India’ or the ‘City of Palaces’. As the place was the former capital of the state, it plays a significant role in the history of the Karnataka state. Today, the city has developed into one of the modernized cities of the country. But still, the place has not lost its charm of historical and cultural legacy. There are plenty of tourist attractions in Mysore and due to this reason the city is visited by thousands of domestic as well as international tourists throughout the year. Some of the chief attractions of the place are its temples, stunning palaces and the alluring gardens that dot along its region. 

Attractions

Brindavan Gardens-Brindavan Gardens is one of the top tourist attractions not only in Karnataka but in the entire country. Spreading over an area of about 150 acres, it has been a popular destination for film shooting in India. The chief attractions of this garden are its colorful fountains and lights. The visitors are quite fond of the musical fountains of this place. The garden is located at a distance of about 20 km from the main city of Mysore. 


Mysore Palace-The renowned Mysore palace is located at the center of the city. Built in the Indo Saracenic style of architecture, the palace is one of the top tourist attractions of the place. The palace was built by the 24th king of the Wodeyar dynasty in 1912. Designed by Henry Irwin, a British architect, the Mysore palace is regarded as one of the biggest in the country. At present, the palace has been converted into a museum that houses art and architecture of the Wodeyar dynasty. The palace remains open from 6 am to 9 am in the morning and from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm in the evening. 


Karanji Lake- There is plenty of tourist attractions in and around the city and the Karanji Lake is one of them. The lake is placed at the foot hills of the Chamundi Mountains, which is just behind the Mysore Zoo. The Karanji Lake is spread over an area of about 90 acres and is home to thousands of residential and migratory birds. The lake also provides boating facilities that allows you to explore the surrounding areas of the lake. The lake is open from 10 am to 6 pm on all days of the week except on Tuesdays. 

Best Time to Visit
As the place experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year, the place can be visited during any season of the year. Still, the most appropriate time to visit the place is during the months of October to February.

Since the place is a major tourist destination of Karnataka, staying is not a problem at this place. You will find plenty of hotels and resorts at this place that range from luxury to budget class. These hotels and resorts are equipped with almost all the modern day amenities making your stay into a comfortable one. How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport to this place is in Bangalore, located at a distance of about 139 km. The airport is well connected with various major cities in India as well as with few international cities in the world. Regular bus and taxi services are available from the airport to the place. 

By Train: The Mysore Railway station is located at a close distance from the main city and is well connected with buses and hired taxis. The station conducts regular trains from various major cities in South India. 



  
By Road: The city is well connected by road with Bangalore, located at a distance of about 139 km. Other major cities close to this place are Mangalore (255 km), Coimbatore (204 km), Kozhikode (211 km) etc. Mysore is well connected with all these cities through regular state and private buses.
