The name of the botanical garden literally means “Red Garden”
in English and is located in Karnataka that is towards the south of Bangalore. You would be amazed to know that it is Lal Bagh which shows one amongst the largest collection of tropical plants some amongst which are imported from foreign countries.

There is an annual exhibition of the botanical garden on the Independence Day and the Republic Day. Lal Bagh has also got a beautiful Glass House which is made based on the model of Crystal Palace (London), the foundation of this very Glass House was laid in 1898 by Prince Albert Victor. Lal Bagh is one of main attractions of Bangalore and is visited by tourists from around the globe.
HISTORY:
The Lal Bagh was first planned to be laid by Hyder Ali in the Sira Gardens and later on his son Tipu Sultan took charges and completed it in 1760. Hyder Ali mainly wanted to give competition to the Mughal Gardens which were gaining popularity in those days and so appointed the Thigala Community for gardening who were believed to be extremely good at it. In the 18Th Century the Lal Bagh became whole of India’s first lawn clock and thereby becoming the garden with largest collection of rare plants in the entire sub-continent. In total the Lal Bagh is spread over 188 acres (760,000m sq) with four gates.
OVERVIEW:
The Garden has got trees which are over 100 years of age and a variety of floras which are more than 1000.
ATTRACTIONS:
· Lal Bagh has got plants which are having origin of Persia, Afghanistan and France which are truly rare in every sense.
· The Lake of Lal Bagh and the Glass House.
· The beautiful gardens which are designed aesthetically having well planned lawns, flowerbeds, fountains and Lotus pools etc.
· The trees which are over a century old are labeled for being easily identified by the tourists.
· The Lal Bagh Rock is one of the main attractions of the garden as it is believed to be originated over 3000 million years ago and so being one of the oldest formations on Earth.
· In Lal Bagh the Government of Karnataka organizes a folk fare “Janapada Jaatre” which features folk dance, music and plays by troupes from all across the state of Karnataka. It is organized on the second and forth weekend of every month thereby a large number of tourists attend it.
· One amongst the four towers made by Kemepgowda is also a major attraction as it gives the view of entire Bangalore from its top.
· The Geological Survey of India made a Peninsular Gnesis from the 3000 million year old rocks.
· Weeping Willow Tree and Kapok Tree are to be witnessed for sure.
· Japanese Decorative Monument.
· Statue of X- Ruler of Mysore, Charm Rajendra Odeyar.

By Rail: Lal Bagh is well connected by Metropoliton Transport Corporation of Bangalore.
By Bus: Lal Bagh is also connected by various buses from Shivaji Nagar’s Kempegowda Bus Station. However if you take the bus towards Jayanagar or Banashankari then you will for sure pass through at least one of the gates of the Lal Bagh.
