Customs and Rituals

It follows the ancestral code while celebrating the season of harvest. During these days farmers from every corner of rural hamlet assembles in their respective field along with their plough instruments which in traditional Nepali language is called ‘hall’. 

Traveler must understand that it is a daylong festival and before they start to plough their field a session of prayer is conducted in which the Bull is prayed. After the call of prayer a guy directing the bull would walk forward and the hall which is attached in the back of bull starts to dig the land in equal measures and following the steps of bull traditional women starts to spread the saplings in equal sequence.
During the time of seed plantation women are dragged into paddy fields and together they start to hymn the cultural Asadh Jhyaure songs. Once they are done with farming they are served with beaten rice and yoghurt and every farmer irrespective of gender enjoys their customary dish by praying god to bestow the season with fruitful results.


Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden is one of the best botanical gardens
on earth and also one of the most popular tourist attractions of Mauritius. The botanical garden is placed on the Southern Hemisphere of Mauritius and is considered to be the second best after the Kew Gardens in London. The Garden has been named after the first Prime Minister of Independent Mauritius, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.

Initially the garden was opened as a private garden by the French governor Mauritius about 300 years ago. The place served as a prime research center for the French and the British during the colonial period. At this date, the place is a home to several varieties of medicinal plants, palm trees, fish pond and a stunning collection of Queen Victoria water lilies. No doubt, the garden is popular among the domestic and international tourists.


Attractions
The different varieties of palm trees of the garden form the major part of the plant species of the place. You will find amazing varieties of shapes and forms of palm trees at this garden.  Among these, the most renowned ones are the tall royal palms, stubby bottle palms and the talipot palms, which flowers once in 40 years and then it dies. Other varieties of palm trees that you can find at this botanical garden are fever, fan, sugar, raffia and sealing wax. Besides the palm trees, the place also exhibits few other interesting species of trees like the fish poison tree, the marmalade box tree and the sausage tree. The fascinating part of the trees grown in this botanical garden is that they are named after some renowned world leaders and royal kingdoms, such as Countess of Snowdon, Francois Mitterand, Princess Margaret and Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. 

At the center of the botanical garden, there is a pond filled with giant Victoria amazonica water lilies. The young leaves of these lilies emerge as wrinkled balls and spread into a classic tea-tray shape for about 2 m, in a matter of hours. The flowers that sprout from the center of these leaves, open white the first day and close red on the next day. The best time to witness the beauty of these lilies is during the month of January, when they flower to their biggest size.


Other attractions of the botanical garden are the diverse species of birds that can be found at this place. There are also some considerable number of deer and a dozen giant aldabra tortoises, found close to the northern exit of the place. Close to this place, is the funerary platform of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. Various international personalities have planted trees around the garden, like Indira Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and a number of British royals. 

Opening Hours
The Botanical Garden opens on all days of the week from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

Entry Fee: The entry to this place is free but you have got to pay for hiring a guide. The rates of the guides at this place ranges from Rs 40 to Rs 50.

Parking Facilities: Parking facilities are provided free of charge at this place.

Bhilai, which is also known as the Bhilai Nagar, is located in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh.
It is the second largest city of the state, located at a distance of about 32 km from Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. Bhilai holds one of the largest steel plants in India, which is known as the Bhilai Steel Plant.  It is the first plant in the country that was credited with the ISO 9002 quality certification. Besides the steel plant, there are several other factories and mines that support the economy of this place. The city is also very much rich in culture, as the people from different religions inhabit this place. Bhilai witnesses the celebration of various festivals belonging to different cultures throughout the year. The place is also known for its numerous religious sites.

Attractions

Dhamda- It is a popular tourist spot in Bhilai, located at a distance of about 35 km from the city. Dhamda lies on the way from Durg to Bemetara and the place houses an ancient fort and a temple. It is also facilitated with restaurants and accommodation for overnight stays.

Ganga Maiya Temple- Ganga Maiya temple is situated at Jhalma, at a distance of about 60 km from the main town of Bhilai. The main deity of the temple is said to have been established by a local fisherman. The main deity of this temple is very much revered by the locals of this region.

Tandula Dam- The dam is located at a distance of about 60 km from Bhilai and is constructed on the Tandula River. It is a scenic spot and a popular picnic destination of the place, which is visited by a large number of tourists during the winter season.

Civic Centre- It is a chief shopping hub of Bhilai, which holds a number of social and amusement activities. The shopping centre has undergone several changes over the years and it also includes a children’s garden, which is equipped with a toy-train, though not operational. The place has a supermarket, which is used for art-exhibitions. At the eastern side of the Civic-Centre, is an ‘Open Air Theatre’, where a number of cultural activities and musical nights are organized.



Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the place is during the winters, which is during the months of October to March. The place experiences a mild and pleasant climate during this time of the year, which is ideal for various outdoor activities.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport to this place is the Raipur airport, located at a distance of about 42 km. The airport conducts regular flights to places like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmadabad etc. Local and hired taxis are available from the airport to get to the place.

By Train: The nearest railway station to this place is Durg Railway Station, located at a distance of about 9 km. The station is well linked with various cities in the country like Bhopal, Nagpur, Puri, Vishakhapatnam, Bilaspur, Howrah, Chapra etc. Tourists will get local as well as hired taxis from outside the station to get to the city.



By Road: Bhilai has a well established network of roads that connects it with different parts in the state as well as the neighboring states. The city receives regular public and private buses along with the taxi services from places like Raipur (32 km), Durg (11 km), Bilaspur (137 km), Gondia (158 km), Tumsar (227 km) and Nagpur (255 km).
