Anini

Anini is a beautiful town, which is located in the Dibang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The town is one of the popular destinations in the state among the tourists. This simple as well as scenic town of the state is the headquarters of Dibang Valley District. The place has been named after the supreme deity of Mishmi’s tribe, Inni. The place is actually a miniature plateau, located between the flow of two rivers, namely Dibang and Mathun. 

Anini is located at a remote place amidst the north eastern Himalayas, which leaves it unexplored and filled with the beauty of natural splendor. The place is a perfect destination for the people who are looking for some retreat, as it is untouched with the hectic daily lifestyle of the cities. But even after its remoteness, the place has all the basic infrastructures, like schools, colleges, hospital, local markets and few others.  

Attractions

Placed at a height of about 1,968 m above sea level, this scenic town of Arunachal Pradesh is covered with fog and mist all round the year.  This feature adds a mysterious aura to this place, attracting the tourists especially during the summer season. People from plainer areas of India usually visit this place during the summers to escape the scorching heat. Anini experiences a very pleasant and cool climate even during the peak summer season, which makes it a hit among the tourists. 

Visitors to this place can also enjoy adventure activities like rafting and fishing on the Dri River. The town is also associated with one of the popular trek routes in Arunachal Pradesh that initiates from Roing and passing through Mayudia, it ends at Anini. It is one of the scenic trek routes in the state, which allows the tourists to explore the true natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh, including the lush green hill and valleys, charming landscapes and captivating rivers. 

Anini is situated along the tribal hamlets, which also makes it an ideal destination to observe the culture and lifestyle of the tribal people. The major part of the town chiefly comprises of Idu Mishmi tribe, whose local language is Midu. The village of this place is filled with small rectangular huts, which are made of wood. Quite amusingly the base of these huts comprises of bamboo sticks, as the huts are structured on hill tops, which have uneven landscape due to the presence of lot of stones. The natives use the bamboo sticks to erect a platform on top of which huts are constructed including a bamboo staircase to climb up. The building of their huts on high elevation also protects them from animals and poisonous insects. The main occupation of these tribal people is agriculture and the main crops grown at this place are maize, rice and millet. 

Festivals

The festivals celebrated by the tribal people of this town also act as major attraction. The festivals celebrated at this place are-

Reh Festival- The festival is celebrated by the Idu Mishimis for six days starting from the 1^stof February. The main highlight of the celebration is the priest dance. During the festival, the priests tie a woolen piece around their neck and perform their dance. Offerings and prayers are also made to Earth God and Water God, during this festival. 

Ke-Me-Ha Festival- It is another major festival celebrated at this town. The event is celebrated on 24^th of September and a grand feast is organized during this time, which is accompanied by dancing and singing.

Best Time to Visit

Though the place can be visited throughout the year, the most appropriate time to get to the place is during the summers, i.e. during the months of April to June.

The place does not have any major accommodation facility except for the rooms provided by the villagers. The best option for accommodation while visiting this place is Roing, which is the closest big town, located at a distance of about 234 km.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport to this place is at Dibrugarh in Assam, which is located at a distance of about 345 km. The airport operates regular flights to places like New Delhi, Dimapur, Guwahati and Kolkata. Anini also facilitates helicopter services, which connects it with various parts in the state. 

By Train: The nearest railway station to this place is Tinsukia railway station, located at a distance of about 300 km. The station conducts regular trains to various major cities in India, such as New Delhi and Chennai.

By Road: The best way to get to this place through road is by reaching Roing first, which is well connected through public and private buses from various parts in Arunachal Pradesh. From there tourists can take a cab or board a bus in order to reach Anini. Roing is located at a distance of about 243 km from Anini.
